11 Abingdon Road Description
Not to be confused with The Abingdon, a short distance down the road, though that excellent establishment could come in handy for a few preliminary bevies before moving along to No.11 for the main event.
The place is a real culinary treasure. Within the pleasing confines of four pale green rooms is offered an imaginative and wholly satisfying menu that embraces some of the more intellectually conceived aspects of European cuisine. Real respect for ingredients and their integration takes ample precedence over any desire for flashy presentation or self-expression.
Expect to find amongst the starters tagliatelle with pied de mouton mushrooms, parsley and Parmesan, a chestnut, celeriac and pancetta soup, or potted shrimps, always a pleasure to find on a menu, particularly when presented as well as they are here.
Main courses run to fillet of wild halibut, partridge with polenta and Barolo sauce and tortellini with pumpkin and mascarpone, or slow-cooked belly of pork with crushed potato and roasted apple.
No 11 is the sort of place that, once found, tends to remain on the "for self only" list. Sorry, it's too good for that.

Your Reviews of 11 Abingdon Road
David Henderson (18 March 2007)
Our first visit on a very quiet Saturday lunchtime, encouraged by positive reviews elsewhere. and they were right. This place is a gem. We each ate atarter and main and of these four dishes none was below "very good". I ate the set lunch which at £15 for two courses is a bargain; choosing an excellent ravioli then a tasty belly of pork on a bed of Savoy cabbage. My wife chose from the a la carte menu a risotto starter and a main course of nicely pink duck which was more tender than is often the case. The service was friendly and timed well. All told, an excellent find and we'll certainly be going back. The bill for two was £68 including service which we felt was good value for a convenient location and a place that presents itself and its food, very well.
