1331 Gastrobar Description
Nestled halfway down Grape Lane, 1331 arches over the entrance to Norman Court and is part of York's fashionable quarter, which comprises of exclusive shops, independent bars and restaurants. The cobbled streets of the "The Quarter" are located in the close vicinity of York Minster, the Theatre Royal, City Art Gallery, and the Yorkshire Museum.
They offer you, an imaginative lunch menu, afternoon teas, decent gastropub style food in the evenings; while all ingredients used are sourced from trusted local suppliers to ensure that they are as fresh as possible. The atmosphere is intimate and relaxed with attentive whilst unobtrusive staff offer an experience to be enjoyed.
1331 boasts a heated, covered terrace, step inside and their friendly bar tenders will offer you a selection of bar food, fine wines, beers and hot beverages. Their terrace bar has a continental and intimate ambience and is a great place to relax, chat with friends, read one of the daily papers or even have a game of chess.
Upstairs they have a contemporary lounge area and seedy snug with comfy sofas and slick decor. Climb a further thirty one steps and you will find their top floor bar which is totally non-smoking. This is also available for private hire for business meetings, weddings, corporate events or general celebrations. They can offer buffets, sit down meals or a la carte menus for your parties or even just drinks if that's what you're looking for.
They have recently introduced the Seedy Snug to 1331, it's not seedy obviously, but the dark paisley wall covering, black leatherette seating, chandelier lighting and solid wood table gives connotations of a 'Goodfellas' meeting room, where deals are done and plans hatched. Naturally that's not the type of clientele they were after.
The snug seats up to twelve people drinking or six people dining, there are no speakers in the room, just the ambient sounds from the main bar and it is non-smoking. You could order a bottle of Champagne, Stoli or Tanqueray and then stay all night. The snug can be pre-booked for a specific time or you can go in on the off chance that it is free.
Your Reviews of 1331 Gastrobar
John Fagerely (9 August 2007)
The decor looked very tired. The staff were disorganised and the food OK, but had pub grub. Don't use the function rooms for events, very unreliable booking procedures.
