Given that art galleries and other places of public entertainment have their own restaurants it seems perfectly reasonable that racecourses should do similar.

At Warwick the racecourse has undergone a major facelift in the catering department, and the restaurant, named after the year in which the course was built, is now a state of the art destination for racegoers and conference attenders alike, who in fact have three restaurants from which to choose.

The menu at 1707 is all embracing and could include roasted carrot and coriander soup enriched with cream, roasted leg of lamb with rosemary and redcurrant jus, loin of cod with a pesto crust and saffron sauce on sautéed spinach and Savoy cabbage, followed by fresh cream filled profiteroles, or a baled soufflé rice pudding served with jam sauce.

The coffee comes with all butter fudge and Turkish delight, and if that sounds like the name of a likely winner, go for it.
