1885 Restaurant

The dining room at 1885 has to be one of the most civilised spaces in the area, a neighbourhood restaurant that reflects those it serves. A converted Victorian cottage it is as though it has never really lost its original purpose, offering a homely welcome and excellent food, with just enough sophistication to give reassurance.

Menus for the early bird come in two or three course mode, and Sunday lunch speaks for itself with roast sirloin of beef and homemade Yorkshire pudding taking central stage.  The 1885 tasting menu can be a 5 or 7 course meal, and is ideal for a special occasion when a group are out to celebrate. For those who don't trust airline catering you can buy wine flight packages in 3, 4 or 6 glass format.

The à la carte is the prime working menu, offering a typical meal of baked wild salmon with dill gnocchi, glazed garden vegetables and nage vinegar, followed by tamarind glazed pork loin, sautéed apple, potato-onion puree and mustard cream.

The puddings feature a grand study in sweets which includes 2 glasses of the house pudding wine, a fig and cinnamon tart with port wine ice cream, or if you are really that keen on the shapely fruit try the banana assiette, with banana tartan, banana milk shake, and five spice battered banana.

1885 The Shop is a temptation that really should not be allowed, which means of course that you will probably visit. Try their wonderful homemade bread, their stunning petit fours, the chilli olives, and their beef fillet and lamb.
