81 Beach Street's beach front location may be a dead giveaway to the type of cuisine on offer here but there's more to look forward to, which is in keeping with their motto of serving fine food minus the frills. Housed within a period building, the atmosphere is relaxed and combines the elements of a bistro and restaurant with an antipodean twist.

Starters include smoked salmon with poached egg and lime butter sauce, and chicken satay skewers. This could be followed by slow cooked duck leg with sweet chilli noodles, crispy spring onion and baby corn, and boneless loin of lamb with merguez sausage, lemon cous cous, chickpeas and tomatoes.

At lunchtime choose between a smoked haddock, leeks and poached egg risotto, and fishcakes with Thai curry sauce and rocket, and then move on to a main course of braised local rabbit pie with course grain mustard sauce, puff pastry and autumn vegetables.
