9 Cellars Restaurant Description
Chef Thakur, the winner of the International Chef of the Year competition in 2007, is perhaps as well known as this eatery itself. Rather than being called an Indian restaurant, they like to refer to themselves as a team that specialises in Indian food. Loved for its authentic cuisine, it offers a limited but quality range of food rather than infinite variety of indistinct tastes and textures.
Start your meal here with the tempting combination of puffed rice with onions with a tangy dip or savour king prawns flavoured with carom seeds before moving on to the more substantial lamb cooked with Kashmiri spices or in a spinach gravy. One can also try their special Goan curry and vindaloo preparations. There are plenty of chicken, sea foods and vegetarian options that are best eaten with freshly baked Indian nan breads and flavoured rice pilavs.
The Guardian pays a tribute to this restaurant with these words - "Thakur's menu is equally unique: rather than a seemingly endless list of numbered curries, it offers a more concise selection that represents various sub continental areas."

I visited this restaurant at York Place a few days back and it seemed like a nice cosy place. At first it feels like a small restaurant with seating for about 20, however, on further investigation we came to know the restaurant was huge with 9 cellars. We did take a tour and were overwhelmed by the place. The starters were to die for. I had a mutton champ and my friend decided to try the spicy mushrooms, have to say both were out of this world. The curry, a Nilgiri korma and the north Indian chicken were really up to taste and full of flavour, which went down well with the waiter's suggestion of garlic special rice and the spinach and garlic paratha. It doesn't seem like the best Indian restaurant from the outside but get in and cozy atmosphere really is one of a kind. I have to say the food has high points in my book and I’m definitely going to recommend this restaurant to my friends and family.

The best Indian food we’ve ever had. Thanks to 9 cellars and Chef Thakur. We will be back soon. Cheers!
