A Room in the West End and Teuchters Bar Description
This is the 'little sister' to A Room in the Town, and there are some similarities, though not the fact that here they are located under Teuchters Bar in William Street, part of Edinburgh's West End. However, they still share the BYOW notion with big sister, together with the modest corkage fee.
Their policy of quality, fresh and affordable Scottish produce in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere can hardly be faulted, particularly as they so obviously keep to it. Expect to find amongst the starters a peppered duck, wild mushroom and leek tart, topped with Isle of Gigha cheddar and sweet plum syrup, a grilled monkfish and Ayrshire bacon skewer with caramelised garlic and heather honey dressing, or smoked tuna, an olive and sugar snap pea salad with lime zest and poppyseed sour cream dressing.
Mains generally offer a pan fried 10 oz rib eye with parmesan and thyme, crushed new tatties and a rich Rioja reduction, or for the vegetarians a Macsweens vegetarian haggis, spinach and celeriac gratin, topped with fig and chilli compote. A special treat comes in the form of a baked plaice fillet rolled with Parma ham, crayfish tails and basil, and lemon avocado oil. All meals are served with fresh bread, potatoes and vegetables, no messing about with extra charges for these basic items.
Complete the pleasure with warm chocolate fudge pudding with caramel sauce, or a delightful sticky treacle tart with Baileys ice cream. The single malts list repays close study and a 20cl bottle of Grahams LBV port will yield you 2 big glasses or 4 smaller ones. As they say on their website, Cheers!

Your Reviews of A Room in the West End and Teuchters Bar
Maggie May (11 December 2008)
I went there for a Christmas meal on Tuesday and it was by far the worst ever. I was served a bitter tasteless soup, with a dry, stingy turkey escalope that looked fried, under cooked chipolatas and disgusting hard side vegetables. The best things were the bread for the soup and the after dinner mint.

I have now visited A Room in the West End three times and in all honesty I want to go back every weekend. The atmosphere is friendly, cosy and incredibly relaxed with members of staff who really understand the value of service with a smile. The food is tasty - my favourite starter was the haggis, neeps and tatties and main course was the lobster ravioli. Each time I have been there I have had their banoffee for desert and it is divine. The bill has come to about £80 each time for two people, having three courses, wine and liqueurs. They also have a 'Bring Your Own Bottle' policy, which can make for a cheaper night out. Well worth a visit.
