African Kitchen Gallery
102 Drummond Street, Fitzrovia, London, NW1 2HN
The charm and quirkiness of small restaurants is certainly amusing, and there are many takers for places like African Kitchen Gallery on Drummond Street, catering to those palates seeking something different from haute or fusion cuisine that seem to have engulfed the culinary world. The gallery aspect comes alive when diners discover that African artefacts, jewellery and ethnic arts are up for sale as well. The menu is relatively short but packed with delights such as sweet potato or fish yam balls, and plantain cassava or bean fritters. A middle course of savannah chicken may spur your taste buds to delve into the flavours of white wine, cheese and tarragon, and those with an affinity for stews could try a curried goat, egusi beef, oxtail groundnut or the jombolo bean version. The charm and quirkiness of small restaurants is certainly amusing, and there are many takers for places like African Kitchen Gallery on Drummond Street, catering to those palates seeking something different from haute or fusion cuisine that seem to have engulfed the culinary world. REVIEWS OF African Kitchen Gallery
Alan (2 February 2011)
Quite simply, the African Kitchen Gallery is my favourite place to eat. I have been overseas recently for six months and the thought of revisiting it next month is very appealing. Sadly, I already know what I shall order, and as soon as I arrive, so will the owner - goat curry and jollof rice. I shall follow this with a fruit flan, which is not pastry based, but more like a mousse. This will be washed down by far too much Rioja. The place is tiny, charming, friendly, and inexpensive. It caters to fish eaters, veggies and meat eaters. For those not wanting wine, there is always a delicious array of fruit juices and homemade ginger beer. What more do you need?

I finally made it to dinner there last night along with a fellow foodie whose birthday it was and oh boy, what a great experience we had! I'm a Nigerian and love the twist they add to traditional dishes, we left with our tongues tingling from the mix of various tastes and flavours. If you love hot pepper ask for their homemade extra hot sauce only brought out by special request, so delicious it was, my mouth is watering even as I type. The service was friendly and warm. I will definitely be recommending the restaurant to all my friends and patronising it for more than just take-aways.
