Akbar's Restaurant - Bradford Description

Don't be put off by the exterior as within you are likely to be transfixed by an interior complete with fountain, tent room and exotic wall lights. Specialising in sizzling pan-cooked baltis from Baltistan, an extreme mountainous region North of Pakistan. Akbars has flown in seasoned chefs to guarantee an authentic cuisine, complete with a huge range of delicious sounding baltis at amazingly cheap prices, fish pakoras and karai gosht. Desserts are much as one would expect. With house wines at £6.95 you might prefer to trade up a bit, as again value is excellent, though you could always go for beer or lassi. Note that they do not accept credit cards.

I'm in full agreement with Martin W. Bradford has a plethora of high quality curry houses. I've eaten occasionally at Akbar's over the past ten years and have witnessed its expansion and deterioration in quality of service and food.

The food is ok but not outstanding. Akbar's has acquired a reputation akin to that of the Magpie fish and chip shop in Whitby and people are attracted by the reputation and not the food. The problem is that people latch onto a favourite eatery and fail to sample the alternatives. Be brave and have a look over Great Horton Road - more eateries than you can shake a stick at.

Akbar's is worth a visit but be prepared to vist some alternatives before judging Akbars to be the best.

We went there for a birthday meal with my family and the food was amazing! I prefer places with a great atmosphere, and Akbar's is definitely one of them - the food is cooked to perfection and the staff are calm, collected and have a great sense of humour.
