Al-Shami Restaurant
25 Walton Crescent, Oxford, OX1 2JG
Located in a Victorian back street in the student quarter of Jericho, aptly named in this case, is the family owned and very popular Al Shami brasserie that has been serving Lebanese food in Oxford since 1988 and has been listed in the Good Food Guide for most of the twenty years of its existence. To anyone who likes imaginative cooking in welcoming surroundings this is a must. Open from noon until midnight, the refuge is loved by customers that include students and tutors, and the fact that there are around 40 hot and cold mezze from which to choose may not be irrelevant. Mains range from kibbeh Istanbuliyah of grilled ground meat with crushed wheat and pine kernels, to mujadara of rice and lentils and baked cod fillet.Located in a Victorian back street in the student quarter of Jericho, aptly named in this case, is the family owned and very popular Al Shami brasserie that has been serving Lebanese food in Oxford since 1988 and has been listed in the Good Food Guide for most of the twenty years of its existence. REVIEWS OF Al-Shami Restaurant
Lucy (20 September 2009)
I have happy memories of this restaurant from my student days and went there recently without a reservation at 9pm with my husband and four small children, none of whom had ever tried Lebanese food before. The staff were welcoming, the food was lovely and the children really enjoyed themselves. Our only, very minor, quibble would be the addition of the cover charge plus the 10% for parties of six or more, although one of our group of six was a sleeping baby who did not wake at all. Also water glasses came, but no water jug. That said, this did not spoil our lovely family meal in cosy surroundings. We were made to feel very welcome and the waiter helped the children to choose their meal and brought them sweets afterwards. The flavours were superb especially the salads and meats and we ordered lots of little dishes; although the portions looked small this was deceptive and we all ate well, for a total of £50. They don't take credit cards though. We would definitely visit again the next time we are in Oxford, it was a lovely part of our visit. They weren't fazed when my four year old curled up and went to sleep after finishing his food.

I went to Al-Shami restaurant just some days ago. It has really changed for the better and the food, and service is very good. As you are eating you really feel the Arabic culture. I suggest every one reads my review and then goes to taste the food.
