Albannach Restaurant

For those looking around for Scotia in Albion, seek no further than Trafalgar Square, London, there you will find Albannach, London's only Scottish contemporary bar and restaurant. Haggis springs to mind, of course, and indeed haggis is there, but so is a good deal more, as Albannach is without doubt a celebration of good Scottish cooking.

Inside a good attempt has been made to drum up a scheme of décor, which sets your feet tapping and your mind reeling. On the menu most of the Scottish favourites are present; typical starters include pan fried black pudding with caramelised apples in thermidor sauce or layered haggis, neeps and tatties cake. Pick of the mains is arguably the roasted fillet of Buccleuch beef with stove potatoes, confit bay shallots and an artichoke purée.

A long, long way from deep-fried Mars bars, desserts are a triumph. To drink? Choose from 140 malt whiskys and/or a strong wine list, whilst cocktails are best quaffed in the clandestine whisky and cocktail lounge in the vaults beneath the main bar.
