Albannach Restaurant

66 Trafalgar Square, London, WC2N 5DS

For those seeking Scotia in Albion, look no further than Trafalgar Square, London, where you will find Albannach, London's only Scottish contemporary bar and restaurant. Haggis springs to mind, of course, and indeed haggis is there, but so is a good deal more, as Albannach is without doubt a celebration of good Scottish cooking. Inside a good attempt has been made to drum up a scheme of décor, which sets your feet tapping and your mind reeling. On the menu most of the Scottish favourites are present; typical starters include scallops with butternut squash puree and crispy bacon, or leek, tomato and goat's cheese tart. Pick of the mains could be the stove chicken casserole or steak and Guinness pie.

A long, long way from deep-fried Mars bars, desserts are a triumph. To drink? Choose from 130 malt whiskys or a strong wine list, whilst cocktails are best quaffed in the clandestine A Lounge in the vaults beneath the main bar.

REVIEWS OF Albannach Restaurant

Bea (11 May 2007)

I went to Albannach for dinner with a couple of friends on a Thursday and the atmosphere was great. The bar is buzzing all evening which adds to the ambience of the restaurant. The food was very, very good. I tried the haggis for the first time and was nicely surprised. My friends had the lamb and the halibut and were equally happy. We dined a la carte but I noticed they do an express menu and I will definitely try it for lunch. And to make it even better, the lounge bar has an impressive collection of whiskies and a mouth-watering cocktail list, and all the staff, guys included, wear kilts!

Holly Vidler (16 February 2006)

We had a team Christmas lunch here (16 people) and the food and service were great - the cranachan is a must! We also went downstairs to their cocktail bar and had a go at making our own cocktails - excellent fun and the guys that ran it kept us engaged (and under control!).
