Albufera, La Description
La Albufera is part of the Melia White House Hotel on Albany Street in a corner of Regent's Park, and its weighty reputation has been further enhanced by winning an award for the Best Spanish Restaurant Outside Spain, a trophy handed out by the Spanish equivalent of DEFRA.
There is a good range of tapas such as crispy cod fritters with mojo picon sauce, mussels sailor style, and Galician octopus on cassava dumpling. Starters include lobster salad with Idiazábal cheese tuile, foie gras and sherry vinaigrette. Mains courses offer plentiful choice with paellas, fish, meat, and seafood dishes, including lamb loin Moroccan style on quince mash, and pan-fried fillet of sea bass with migas, Cordoba style, accompanied by melon ice cream and pomegranate shot.
It's no surprise that the wine list at La Albufera is heavily influenced, and given the improvement in Spanish wines over recent years, this is a welcome change.
