I'm very excited that come 1st July I'll really be able to enjoy the best sandwiches in Nottingham. The only problem with the Alley Cafe at the moment is it can get very smoky - that'll all change and we'll have healthy air as well as healthy food.

Alley Cafe is not the easiest bar to find in the city centre; as its name suggests, it's tucked away in an alley, almost directly opposite Angel Row library.

It's certainly one of Nottingham's most pleasant casual eateries. Possibly because the sandwiches have quirky names such as 'Mildred' and 'Nellie', or because the cafe acts as venue for live performances, it attracts the more bohemian inclined, as well as the city's vegetarians and vegans.

Whatever other reasons for the Alley Cafe's popularity, the menu is fresh, varied and always thoughtfully put together, the drinks organic, fair trade or freshly squeezed (although I didn't check the milk!) and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly.

Do you need any more reasons to be persuaded to try out Nottingham's best independent?!
