Almeida Restaurant & Bar
30 Almeida Street, London, N1 1AD
The Almeida restaurant comes courtesy of the D&D collection and can be aptly termed as an Islington's neighbourhood restaurant, with its smart casual feel. The interior has a cool but comfortable modern design, all done up in white and blue, and the wine bar is perfect for those who fancy a quick nibble or a glass of wine. The menu, developed by chef Alan Jones, fresh from Michelin starred Lucknam Park, is a contemporary, French menu with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients and the simple, clean execution of dishes, combining colour and texture with plenty of French classics that include ballotine of duck foie gras, apple and walnuts, toasted fig bread; chilled velouté of English sweet corn and herb crème fraîche, and lobster bisque. The Almeida restaurant comes courtesy of the D&D collection and can be aptly termed as an Islington's neighbourhood restaurant, with its smart casual feel. A main course of fillet of sea bass papillote, slow roast belly of suckling pig, or red wine braised beef Bourguignon is likely to please most appetites. Round it off with a white chocolate mousse with raspberries and lemon shortbread accompanied by a glass of Pineau des Charentes.
Many dishes are steamed or poached, providing customers with a lighter experience and more elegant presentation. The Almeida is renowned for its revival of trolley service and the popular charcuterie trolley features home made rillettes, terrines and patés served with cornichons and homemade pickles - totally unique.

REVIEWS OF Almeida Restaurant & Bar
Duncan (2 February 2004)
Had a wonderful evening, a birthday celebration in a wonderful restaurant. From walking in the door to walking out, the service was excellent. Nothing seemed any trouble to our waiter, he was attentive without rushing us and helped to make the evening very special.
The food is as good as it sounds on the menu and the atmosphere was just about perfect. My only hesitation in recommending this place would be to stop it becoming too overcrowded for those of us who have already discovered it!

Don't expect identikit, pre-fab restaurant interiors which are usually a staple of the larger chains; each restaurant is tailored to its local surroundings and customers, offering up a unique restaurant experience to go with the equally unique taste of legendary, Portuguese, Peri-Peri chicken.
