Amato Description
This well-known Soho café is a real find. The ambiance is relaxed and chilled out making it the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely lunch, or just to pop in for afternoon tea to enjoy one of their many fantastic cakes. Breakfast is also a busy time at Amato when you can indulge in the likes of a full English breakfast, or perhaps just smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. The rest of the menu features a variety of pasta dishes such as spaghetti carbonara or penne arabbiata, there's also a quiche of the day and a choice of toasted sandwiches. The idea here is to keep the main course simple and then really go to town with your choice of patisserie, the true speciality of Amato.

I had been to Amato to order a custom-made birthday cake. I spoke with one of the pastry chefs (I guess) to discuss options. There was no catalogue to show me and he was rather unfriendly. After discussing options for fifteen minutes and going nowhere, I found his body language too off putting and decided to leave with the intention of consulting Amato's website. I later came across Café Concerto in Regents Street and I had the most welcoming service and ended up buying a custom made in approximately fifteen minutes.

Amato's friendly staff and amazing cakes continue to make me wanting to come back. I have yet to try everything but it is my plan to do so because there is not one thing that I have tried and not loved. I highly recommend the Fiorentina, it is beyond delicious!
