Anchor Inn, The Description
Plenty of homemade cooking at this 450 year old smuggler's haunt, as well as superb seafood straight from its source. The list of Awards assembled over the years is just about as long as the menu and that, believe me, is saying something. The setting is mouthwatering - you can lean across from the outside tables and almost touch the bows of the fishing boats. Dishes are prepared at the time of ordering but the wait is well worth it, particularly when you are considering such delights as pan-fried zip back prawns or the renowned spicy trawlerman's gumbo pot with its glorious maritime mingle of white fish, prawns, cockles, mussels and langoustines wallowing in a hot spicy fish sauce. As if that is not enough you can dream about the treacle tart with banana chips or dates - and I daresay they would not take too much persuading to let you have some of each. This is a place not to miss, indeed I would go further and present it with yet another Gong - the Worth Taking a Wide Deviation Award.
Your Reviews of Anchor Inn, The
Steve (25 April 2008)
This is an awesome place! I took my family there after grabbing a pint of ale the day before and perusing their menu. The seafood is excellent - fresh mussels and delicious scallops. The shell food selection seems a little pricey at £20, but there is plenty of mussels and shrimps, plus side dishes and takes a while to eat. Kids are welcome and the atmosphere is good. The pub is now extended and they have a very good selection of whiskeys. I had a nice malt and watched the tide come in. It was well worth a visit.
Sythai (2 February 2008)
I could not wait to get out of this place. The food was over cooked, tasteless and offered no value for money. The atmosphere was not comfortable, since most of the tables were close to each other. I won't be going back there again.
