Anchor Inn, The Description
Plenty of homemade cooking at this 450 year old smuggler's haunt, as well as superb seafood straight from its source. The list of Awards assembled over the years is just about as long as the menu and that, believe me, is saying something. The setting is mouthwatering - you can lean across from the outside tables and almost touch the bows of the fishing boats. Dishes are prepared at the time of ordering but the wait is well worth it, particularly when you are considering such delights as pan-fried zip back prawns or the renowned spicy trawlerman's gumbo pot with its glorious maritime mingle of white fish, prawns, cockles, mussels and langoustines wallowing in a hot spicy fish sauce. As if that is not enough you can dream about the treacle tart with banana chips or dates - and I daresay they would not take too much persuading to let you have some of each. This is a place not to miss, indeed I would go further and present it with yet another Gong - the Worth Taking a Wide Deviation Award.
Your Reviews of Anchor Inn, The

We eat at the Anchor Inn regularly and have never been disappointed with the food. They always serve very generous meals for the price and the seafood is always good, especially the mussels, which they specialise in. Not only is it a good night out but the atmosphere of this small, old worldy pub is truly inviting. I recommend this pub heartily.

Ate at the Anchor last night celebrating my partner’s birthday and as usual the food was superb. The mussels were huge and the choice of sauces was as usual amazing. I have eaten there several times and always will happily come back for the charming and cosy atmosphere, the excellently managed building - 450 years and the vast majority of it just as it was with no horrible expanses of chipboard and empty carpet - and the friendly and efficient staff. Not being a one off visit holiday maker gives one the chance to build an opinion based on usage and as far as this is concerned the Anchor isn't just my restaurant of choice it's where I take my visitors to show the best Devon has to offer.
