Anchor Inn, The Description
The Anchor Inn sits just down the road from an elegant hotel and restaurant reviewed elsewhere in this guide, and could be described in the nicest possible way as the other end of the market. Both are excellent in their own manner, you take your choice.
At the Anchor, long the natural habitat of the Temple family who run the boats to Blakeney Point, you can book for the Point and be sure of coming back to a quickly served, attractive meal.
Try the locally smoked mackerel served hot and buttered with horseradish for starters. Trouble is with such a cornucopia from the sea available the temptation to stray little on the menu is great. For instance the humble fish and chips takes on a new dimension with a locally caught cod, perfectly deep-fried and served with mushy peas.
I'm afraid after that it's too late so it's treacle sponge and custard - a word in the ear of one of the pretty waitresses should secure you a second helping of treacle and negative custard.
All the fish comes from Willy Weston in nearby Blakeney, Howells the Butchers from Binham do their wonderful meats and Mr Ollie of the North Elmham Bakery produces all the bread.

After a trip out to see the seals on the point, my fiancé and I stopped for dinner and it was the highlight of our holiday. We ate out every day for a week and the food there was miles ahead of everywhere else. Awesome salmon and crab fishcakes and a sea bass the size of a whale with orange and caper butter. So perfect we forgot the time and missed the last bus back to Sherringham. We will be back.

Much has been said of the restaurant but sit outside with a couple of jugs of prawns and a crab with some rough bread and butter in the sunshine accompanied by an ice cold chablis.
Perfect
