Anthony's Restaurant Description
Anthony's brings a breath of fresh family air to the Leeds culinary scene, with Anthony Flinn, recently of El Bulli and The Vineyard, and his partner Olga, with Tony senior and sister Holly in charge of business and front of house respectively at his new eponymous restaurant. Anthony was hailed as "a new Gordon Ramsay" at a ceremony where he was presented by Albert Roux with the Remy Martin overall Excellence Award in 2004, the youngest winner ever.
This is a team that could take a lot of holding and the word is to keep an eye open for great things. The menu smacks of an imagination well under control but bursting to try new ideas once the clientele has firmed up.
Starters could be dressed salad of crab with a green pumpkin seed praline or an Anjou squab with jabugo ham and pink grapefruit drops. Salt cod features amongst the main courses as does suckling pig with jersey royals and a mango flavoured jus, or for something rather different roast breast of duck with olive oil and chocolate bons bons. A serious wine list repays attention, with house wine at £18.50 or by the glass.
Fixed Lunch
- £19.95 (2 courses) to £23.95 (3 courses)
Your Reviews of Anthony's Restaurant
Alan (21 April 2008)
We ate there on a Saturday after booking a couple of months ahead. We arrived at 7pm and were surprised that the restaurant wasn't busy. However, the place filled up as the evening progressed. We opted for the £60 taster menu. Being served eight dishes meant that it was difficult to recall the details, but the staff printed a copy of the menu we'd had, which was helpful. Of all the dishes we ate, I think the pig's cheek with garlic squid was the most memorable although the smoked goose gave it a run for its money. The service was serious and professional. Dining there is expensive but you can see where the money is being spent - the cookery, ingredients and the linen and china. This place is a class act and I'm busily saving up for my next visit.
Not a place for celebration (17 April 2008)
We were very excited about trying this restaurant as it was my daughters twenty- first birthday, which we wanted to celebrate with close family members. The reception was pleasant - we were offered champagne, which tasted good and the waitress was lovely. We were unable to fault the attention, but once we went downstairs the atmosphere lacked warmth. The food was okay, nothing special, and pricey. We would have been seriously disappointed had we booked this for a bigger celebration.
