Apartment, The Description

Located just up the road from the King's Theatre, The Apartment has sustained its early promise and remains one of the trendy spots to eat on the edge of the New Town. The fittings reminded me of an Oxbridge College's modern dining room - nothing skimped, modern and sensible, good taste and eminently practical. The atmosphere is not so far different either, apart from the music, but this contributes to the good buzz factor and is clearly popular with the clientele.

To describe the cuisine would take a long time, suffice to say that it is composed of many, all listed and fused under such headings as CHL's (chunky, healthy lines), Fish Things, The Slab and several others. You'll get the message pretty quickly. Be warned the helpings are generous but sharing is an option.

The staff actually manage to convey the impression that they enjoy working there and the overall ambience is of a clean, happy and open place where everybody matters. About £19.50 per head for three courses plus wine.

Your Reviews of Apartment, The

Sudipto (13 November 2009)

Though alarmed by the many negative reviews I had read about this restaurant on a few sites, I braved the choice made by a friend and went. Not only was the food great, it was beautifully served with no unusual delays. We weren't rushed out by the manager either, contrary to what one reviewer wrote, and the waitress serving us was most courteous and good humoured. The lamb I ordered along with my friend was cooked to perfection and the aubergine dish my wife ordered earned her appreciation as well. I recommend this place to anyone interested in good tasting food, served in sumptuous portions.

Seonaid (19 October 2008)

I have never encountered such rude and unhelpful staff. We entered the restaurant at 12.30 and were not served our meal until 1.20. The service was poor as the waitress had difficulty with English, and had not grasped the meaning of the word sorry. When we approached another member of staff about the slow service thirty minutes after our order had been taken, we were told they were busy and if we could do better we should go into the kitchen. When we arrived there were only four other customers in the place. The second time I enquired, I was told that as my friend had already complained I had to sit down and wait. As we were getting ready to leave, our food finally arrived. We paid the highly inflated bill and left. We certainly won't be back. Good luck to future diners, you may need it.
