Appletree Country Inn Description
There is much to admire in the way that Melanie Drew and co-owner and chef, TJ Drew, set about creating a success in this simple looking Yorkshire Inn; and, in the main, they have succeeded in an impressive fashion.
"Simple, attractive, exciting and a little bit different" is how TJ likes to describe his food. The style is Modern British, reflecting its origins but influenced by the cultures and cuisine of many countries, from Europe to the Far East with a bit of a twist. Everything is fresh and wherever possible, raw products are sourced locally, even herbs are from the garden and some of the fruit is from their own orchard.
They also make their own bread, ice-creams, chocolates, chutneys and dressings, some of which are for sale.
Lunch could consist of: cream of butternut squash soup; steamed Scottish mussels with Pernod cream; Yorkshire game terrine with homemade orchard plum chutney or crispy duck and bacon salad with honey and mustard dressing - all between £4 to £6 apiece.
Mains run from: braised thick flank of Marton beef, horseradish cream and red onion marmalade, pan fried calf's liver with foie gras butter and creamy mash, salmon fillet poached in mulled wine with bubble & squeak, leek and potato ragout with trio of pickled beetroot. With puddings like: marbled chocolate pyramid with Valrhona chocolate mousse; Yorkshire dark treacle tart with lemon curd ice-cream; black 'n' blue Marton mess. Need I say any more!

Your Reviews of Appletree Country Inn
Pauline and Jim (10 October 2007)
We had a fantastic meal at the Appletree and the food was out of this world, even the homemade bread was to die for, orange and chocolate sounds weird but tasted wonderful. We would definitely be back on our next visit to the area.
Hoogiehider (28 May 2007)
We have just spent the Bank Holiday in the area and went there on our last night. If we had gone on the first night we would probably not have tried anywhere else. Lovely place, spotless, nice decor, great menu and lovely friendly staff. Would definitely return and recommend to others. Starters and mains excellent but the desserts...you will want more than one.
