Arami Description
Arami combines traditional Bangladeshi cuisine with award-winning interior design and is a welcome addition to Newcastle's outstanding range of restaurants. The eighty seater restaurant on Leazes Park Road, features a complementary mix of brown leather seating, neutral wall colours, natural walnut finishes, dramatic chandeliers and prismatic glass to create a light and contemporary atmosphere.
The menu includes traditional Bangladeshi dishes such as rajshahi chicken, chicken tikka with a jackfruit and mango sauce, shahi chocolate korma, a dish of braised chicken or lamb in a chocolate gravy with almond and coconut, and rup chanda, freshwater fish marinated in yoghurt with herbs and spices, then barbecued in a clay oven. Arami is also one of the only UK restaurants to serve jackfruit, which is the national fruit of Bangladesh.

I ate there in April, taking my boyfriend out for a special birthday meal following recommendations. Although the decor is great and the staff attentive, we were extremely disappointed with the food. A starter with large chunks of vegetables in what tasted like an uncooked tikka paste was not good, and the same basic red paste or sauce seemed to crop up in the other meat starter and one of our main course curries. The mains were even worse with no real differentiation of flavour and I think this was the worst restaurant meal I have ever had. We did pay, but also told our waiter that we had not enjoyed the food. If you are a fan of well spiced and flavoured Indian or Bangladeshi food, I would steer well clear. If you like your food on the bland side but want a modern looking restaurant then maybe this place is for you.

I recently had the pleasure of eating at Arami with friends for a birthday celebration and it definitely will be one to remember. The food was fantastic and the wine was great. It was presented beautifully and the staff were helpful. I am however angered to read a comment left by 'Steven' about the hair. The purpose of this website is to give opinions and not complaints. Did he complain? Does he realise that root ginger has hair on it? If it was such an issue why didn’t he complain that night instead of here? Arami is a not just a restaurant, it is a whole night out and not to be missed so go there and enjoy!
