Archduke
Concert Hall Approach, South Bank, London, SE1 8XU
Restaurants under railway arches may not exactly guarantee a ticket to success, but that hypothesis may hold true only till you've seen The Archduke Wine Bar and Restaurant. Carved from under the archways by Waterloo station with enormous glass panelling, it's now known for its exciting and innovative architecture. Even the cooking has its own allure and is completely modern European in essence, with an appealing nod towards seasonality, think asparagus spears, shaved parmesan, rocket and a poached egg. Prime Scottish aged beef cooked to your liking strikes the right meaty notes, so take pleasure in delicious slabs of sirloin, fillet or côte de b?uf for two to share. You might encounter a chicken Caesar or salmon steak with turmeric potatoes, lemon and dill crème fraîche whilst exploring the salad and main course section of the menu.Restaurants under railway arches may not exactly guarantee a ticket to success, but that hypothesis may hold true only till you've seen The Archduke Wine Bar and Restaurant. Named after Beethoven's piano trio, The Archduke's links with music remain largely unbroken as they host jazz nights right through the week.

REVIEWS OF Archduke
David (22 November 2006)
A no-smoking restaurant, so you can enjoy the food. The service was friendly, efficient, but not overbearing, when I was taken to eat there mid-evening after a cocktail reception. The servers smiled, and seemed eager to make sure that the clients had a good experience.
The food was delicious (I chose the three different kinds of sausage). I don't know if I was just lucky, but not knowing much about wine I chose a relatively inexpensive red wine from Chile, which was very good indeed - full-bodied and smooth, impossible to resist. I have already booked to return there next month to enjoy it all over again.
