Arcoona at The Beardmore Hotel Description

Arcoona - a part of the well known hotel, The Beardmore, nestling on the banks of the Clyde in Glasgow - is a fine dining restaurant. While the hotel is associated with modern luxuries and leisure facilities, Arcoona is appreciated for its lovely ambience and great food and it is named after a passenger ship that William Beardmore and company built in 1924.

The restaurant specialises in international cuisine, yet has strong French and Mediterranean overtones, and the kitchen turns out contemporary and classic dishes alike. There are several confit and consommés to start a meal with, and also options like red mullet with wilted summer leaves and carrot escabeche or ravioli celeriac, with wild mushroom and truffle and served with a spinach crumpet - both great choices.

One could opt for mains like roast rack of lamb with mint and aubergine puree, Dauphinoise potato and sauce piperade and breast of corn fed chicken, herb risotto  with red wine and cep jus. There is an extensive choice of wines available by the glass or the bottle to add charm to the meal, and several attractive options such as warm banana fondant with coconut ice cream or strawberry and fig tart with almond sherbet, amongst others, for dessert.

While Arcoona is primarily designed to serve guests from the hotel, its chic and spacious dining room, with elegant drapes and polished wooden floors, also attracts many local diners.

Your Reviews of Arcoona at The Beardmore Hotel

Lorna Hunter (30 May 2008)

I dined at Arcoona last week, and cannot praise it highly enough. The food, service and ambience were first class. The staff could not have been more attentive and the food was delicious. I will definitely return.

Patricia Davis (10 September 2007)

I had a small wedding dinner for eight of us at Arcoona and was extremely disappointed. The service was very poor. We had waited fifteen minutes before the order was taken. After a further ten minutes, we were served a slice of bread each, no basket of bread on the table. Each course was served with the first person receiving theirs five to ten minutes before the last person could get theirs and the waiting time between courses was lengthy. We dispensed with waiting until everyone was served before eating. I actually cancelled dessert as everyone had finished and mine still had not arrived. We were offered no drinks or wine list which was highly unusual and had to ask how we ordered a bottle of wine. The food itself was fine when it had arrived but the staff seemed confused about the dishes and said it was a change of menu. The staff were distracted and not very interested and the meal was totally spoilt with the strain of everything. I expected so much more from this restaurant on what was an important occasion for us.
