Arts Restaurant, The Description

Venue should fill a gap in Cambridge, one that badly needs filling, yet initial promise does not seem to have stood the test of time. One explanation may be that they are simply trying too hard. The food is potentially good but often does not quite seem to hit the mark. A global, but relatively short wine list meets most aspirations and there are twelve bottles by the glass starting at £3.25.

My wife and I had lunch at the Arts Restaurant in January 2008 and it was great. I had mussels cooked in cider with chips, and my wife had the smoked haddock and cheese omelette. They were both great and the service was informal but on the whole, can’t fault it and would go back for the seafood alone.

We went on a night when there was a show, and there was only a set menu. Of the items on the menu, three of the mains were not available - this made it very limited indeed. I was not drinking and my friends only had beers / shorts (3 of). The bill came to £120 which was very pricey for the choice. The food itself was quite nice but not what we wanted.
