The name may not be a giveaway but Asadal Restaurant is one of those few places introducing the intricacies of Korean cuisine to Londoners. Although the name translates to morning-land, the interior is a dimly-lit place, perhaps owing to its basement location, but the feelings of cosiness and comfort are unmistakable.

The kimchi marks a litmus test for good Korean restaurant - a unique dish prepared using Chinese cabbage, white radish and cucumbers that are salted and preserved in a spicy seasoning - and Asadal does well to pass the assessment. Delightful barbecued dishes like lightly seasoned cuts of cuttlefish and slices of ox tongue meat could follow, or perhaps a hotpot of marinated beef and spiced baby octopus cooked with vegetables in a broth.

The special lunch set at Asadal Restaurant is designed to help diners sample plenty of dishes ranging from handmade dumpling soup and tangy chicken wings to marinated cuts of topside beef and a Korean dessert drink.
