Asia de Cuba Description

China Grill Management burst into the global culinary scene with several critically-acclaimed dining spots around the world and Asia de Cuba lives up to the group's reputation as a favourite eating out spot for London's glitterati. The restaurant's classy design includes soaring art columns and moody lighting, and the Rum Bar is a quirky twist to the classic English pub.

The cuisine can be slightly intriguing, think flavours of tropical fruits and vegetables and Latin spices cooked the Asian way, and Cuban cookery infused with tastes from the Far East. Strange it may sound, but wait till you take the first bite of crab croquetas with jicama, mango, green apple and mirin infused slaw, roasted red pepper remoulade and chilli ponzu dipping sauce. Next it could be a flavoursome combination of honey-rhum glazed pot roast of pork, Shanghai bok choy, fried plantains and enoki mushrooms, or Wagyu char sui beef short ribs, congre tostones and chilli orange mojo. Side orders include the delicious lobster boniato mash and panko crusted crispy plantain.

Your Reviews of Asia de Cuba

Eric Walker (10 December 2003)

Asia de Cuba is an amazing experience. Rarely do you find portions too big to eat elsewhere! Listen to the advice of the extremely knowledgeable waiting staff. They will tell you to share main courses. No matter how hungry you may feel, after a starter you will struggle with a main course to yourself. Each side dish is enough for two.

The food is a unique blend of Asian and Caribbean which works amazingly well. Both meat and fish are sensational. Once you have accepted the sharing concept, the prices seem somewhat reasonable. The wine list is comprehensive but, in fairness, pricey. The house white is excellent and half the price of anything else. You will find this cunningly secreted on the first page of the wine list away from the rest of the selection.

The atmosphere is buzzing - it really is a great place to go with a few friends where you can share lots of dishes in true Asian style. It is not really the ideal venue for quiet romantic dinners. Highly recommended.
