Atami Description
A new recruit to the ranks of what seems to be a concerted drive to ensure more Japanese restaurants open their doors, particularly in and around London. This one makes more than a passing nod towards European influences, with very good results, particularly amongst the ingredients and presentation areas.
Head Chef Anthony Sousa Tam has been at work in London for some 15 years and has a wealth of experience to offer, together with a unique style where modern Japanese cuisine is concerned.
Signature dishes feature squid salad with ginger ink sauce, Chilean sea bass with shishito pepper and yuzu truffle sauce and foie gras chawan muchi with sea urchin, but much of the eating done here is via an attractive range of what is effectively dim sum. Whatever your choice the general tenor of the dishes is high, with excellent attention to detail.

I love Atami, I've been there twice and each time was a deliciously different experience.
Last time I went for a special ten dish tasting menu and a glass of champagne for £30, which is great value as the restaurant can be quite pricey. The beef was melt-in-the mouth amazing and the tempura better than in Japan. The service is attentive but never overzealous, our waiter was very knowledgeable and his recommendations for the sake were valuable. Atami is in a funny part of town, but it's in a nice off-the-beaten-track part of town, so it's well worth the travel.
