Atma Description
They call themselves 'the soul of Indian dining' and while the epithet may seem to resound with hyperbole, they are not entirely wide off the mark. Atma brings the effervescent South Indian cuisine to Hampstead in an elegant and refined setting, where the service is impeccable and staff, friendly and knowledgeable. Muted rust red walls and white linens add to the feeling of understated sophistication, while the food there is definitely 'soul-stirring'.
For starters, you could choose the batter fried baby soft shell crab with sesame and crushed pepper and black rice noodle cake, and then move on to oven roasted duck brushed with black pepper and sea salt served with crispy okra and lentil sauce. Indian desserts such as gulab jamun, reduced milk dumplings soaked in cardamom flavoured syrup feature prominently. The extensive wine list favours France mostly, but there is also the option of chilled Kingfisher or Cobra that complements Indian food perfectly.

This was the best Indian meal we’ve ever had - excellent service, beautifully presented dishes and reasonable prices. We had the Atma mix grill and chatpati aloo chaat, both tasted delicious. The zaffrani rabbit and Chettinad chicken were equally good. I definitely recommend this place.
