Axis at One Aldwych is closed for the Christmas and New Years period – Saturday 22nd December 2012 to Monday 14th January 2013.

The truly elegant Axis at One Aldwych is a paragon of trendy modern design with its unusual blend of colours and design elements like aubergine sofas and green panels. The construction and décor may be compelling but what really wows those who flock there is the eclectic carte that is distinctly inspirational. The cuisine contains strong elements of classicism and the menu is partly designed with pre or post theatre supper or dinner in mind.

The Axis carte focuses on seasonal and quality British ingredients and that includes foraged foods such as delicate sea purslane and wood sorrel. The Modern British menu offers all of this in abundance, not forgetting a list of exciting artisanal cheeses.

Dishes might include a starter of 'pan fried and tartare of mackerel, watercress and warm shellfish vinaigrette' and a main course of 'Highland venison loin rolled in mustard and soft herbs, braised shoulder and celeriac'.

Desserts are not to be missed - you'll be torn between 'Savarin of citrus fruits and rosehip sorbet' and 'Scottish honey parfait with preserved figs'.
