Bacchanalia

Spread over two floors, Bacchanalia is a cocktail wine bar and restaurant, this serves Mediterranean inspired dishes alongside a few British favourites. The restaurant is located at the top floor, while the bar below offers cocktails and has an extensive selection of wine.

Bacchanalia - located on the peaceful Chapel Walks, a hundred yards from the hustle and bustle of King Street - is a Greek word meaning party; it is basically about getting together and having good fun. True to its name, when the weather is suitable, there is always a gathering of diners and drinkers enjoying al fresco tables.

Run by Neil Smith and Jon Derbyshire, who between them have over twenty years experience in the hospitality industry, Bacchanalia serves up a varied selection of lunchtime, evening and buffet meals. Choices could include bangers and mash - a ring of Cumberland sausage served on black pudding mash or good old fish and chips, which nobody ever tires of. Their simple dishes like sandwiches and wraps are well prepared, while the classic club sandwich, steak and salmon sandwich or the make your own burgers also make a showing on the menu.

Other dishes include grilled lamb rump with an aubergine and tomato caviar, while the simple, yet tasty, meatballs are lightly spiced and served with tzatziki; then there is chicken parfait, which is rich and smooth, and is served with a rustic loaf and onion marmalade.

You could also try the baked aubergine with tomato and garlic topped with haloumi cheese and served with a roquette salad or the fillets of sea bass with a tomato and olive pilaf, roasted cherry tomatoes and black olives.

How about sampling one of their desserts, like baklava, a traditional Greek sweet dish of filo pastry, chopped nuts, nutmeg and cinnamon served with honey, or their homemade cheesecake, which is served with a fresh topping everyday - but maybe you shouldn't tell your dentist about these sweets?!
