Baker & Spice - Chelsea
47 Denyer Street, Chelsea, London, SW3 2LX
Even since they opened their first café over 10 years ago, Baker and Spice has evolved into a place to meet friends, relax and savour their delicious cakes and pastries. With three outlets in Chelsea, Belgravia and Maida Vale, the setting is eclectically elegant but they all share a common desire to consistently serve good food and you can count on the quality of their expertly baked croissants. Breakfast is served all day with familiar dishes like the classic English that includes a couple of fried organic pullet eggs and sausages, grilled streaky dry cured bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms and baked beans. Assorted breads from the basket are served with Jersey cream butter, homemade seasonal preserves and marmalade, and their extended range of breakfast pastries includes pain au chocolat, almond croissant, blueberry muffins and cinnamon buns.Even since they opened their first café over 10 years ago, Baker and Spice has evolved into a place to meet friends, relax and savour their delicious cakes and pastries. Cakes are a speciality at Baker and Spice, and so you shouldn't let your gaze fall anywhere else than on their tempting trays of sponge cakes, fruit flans, creamy cheesecakes, brownies and fluffy meringues.

REVIEWS OF Baker & Spice - Chelsea
James Paterson (18 April 2009)
I wouldn't go back - far too expensive for what they're serving up.
Rosemonkey (6 June 2007)
This place is completely overrated, overpriced and pretentious. We went there for Sunday brunch and it was fraught with frustration from the moment we sat down. I wanted scrambled eggs and bacon, so chose the 'scrambled eggs with cream fraîche' - but they refused to supply a side order of bacon with it. Moreover, when the dish arrived there was no toast or anything - merely just a plate of eggs and that's it, for 11 quid!
My husband ordered the full English breakfast, but asked for the eggs scrambled instead of fried - again this was not possible. I would have thought that was a basic and common request. And when the dish came, the eggs were in fact poached, not fried! He hates poached eggs.
My mother ordered the smoked salmon on savoury pancakes - and was told that "that dish may take a long time" - god knows why! I found the staff to be extremely unhelpful, rude and pretentious, and obviously the chefs are either totally unreasonable or incapable of cooking the simplest things - probably both. We will not be returning.
