REVIEWS OF Baltic Restaurant & Bar
Corinne Ruiz (14 July 2006)
I took my husband to Baltic for his birthday yesterday and was extremely disappointed with the food. I'm not too sure where all those good reviews come from. The decor is really nice; unfortunately the food does not live up to the place.
We had langoustine in vodka butter sauce to start with. The sauce was far too rich for the langoustines. Then we had blinis with herring and pickles. The blinis were actually uncooked pancakes with two herrings on one side and pickles on the other. Is there a chef in the kitchen, this is the question?
For main course, I had sea bream with fennel and tomatoes, which was OK. My husband had cod with spinach, which was dry as a bone. Again, the dish was lacking on creativity.
We paid £93 for this and I will never go back there. I left the place feeling ripped off.

I had a great lunch at this restaurant yesterday on my first visit to eat having previously only tried the cocktail bar. A great choice of some interesting Polish/ Eastern European influenced options on the menu left me in a dilemma over what to choose. I opted for smoked eel with spinach, bacon & potato to start which was delicious, plus a less adventurous but also delicious rib eye steak served with perfect for steak skinny chips & salad. Service was very good and we got away with a bill of £90 for two course lunch for two which included two bottles of great Rioja. They also have a great value set lunch menu so you could dine there very reasonably. Nice decor in restaurant, very light with high ceiling / wood beams.
