Bangkok Restaurant

9 Bute Street, London, SW7 3EY

Started well over thirty years ago by the son of a Cultural Attaché at The Thai Embassy, the inimitable Toot Bunnag, the menu has gently progressed, but never disappointed. The décor could certainly be described as basic, but it does have air-conditioning, which compensates slightly! Even the waiting staff have problems getting between the tables, so don't expect an enormous amount of elbow room. If that all sounds a bit negative, the most simple recommendation that I can give for the Bangkok is that in thirty years of going there, I have never once had a disappointing meal. The worst fault was that the satay was once a little burnt! Old favourites like the satay or the hot and sour soup are always excellent, whilst their Thai noodles are simply the best! Our children love it, and so do we.

It also boasts what is probably the most enterprising wine list in an oriental restaurant, superb Sancerre, Domaine Des Broux and half bottles of the luscious Domaine Cazes, the most perfect accompaniment to one of their desserts.

REVIEWS OF Bangkok Restaurant

Barrie D Smith (24 March 2011)

I first went to the Bangkok restaurant in 1973 when it was on the opposite side of the road. I have tried just about everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. The menu is not extensive but that is good because they can concentrate on doing excellence. They produce about the most authentic Thai food you can get in London. I highly recommend their satay, beef curry and Thai rice noodles, and you won’t get better anywhere. It's my favourite.
