The steady proliferation of Thai restaurants of real quality and value is to be greatly welcomed. There are few cuisines where integrity is more difficult to fake and the result is a level of trustworthiness that is understandably high.

The Bangkok Room believes in making you comfortable and at home, a gesture one might hope to expect from any restaurant, but not always the case. The dining room has an atmosphere of Far Eastern precision, with lattice backed chairs and banquette seating.

First courses of grilled beef with Thai spices and fresh herbs, Thai fish cakes with cucumber and peanut relish, or the customary crisp fried filo pastry stuffed with chicken, garlic and peppers are amongst a choice of about ten, or there's the traditional tom yam goong, king prawns in spicy and sour soup with lemon grass and lime leaves.

A traditional chicken curry cooked with coconut milk, potatoes and fresh Thai herbs demonstrates only too clearly the joy of a curry incorporating this wonderful milk. Stir fried dishes include your own choice of meat prepared with mushroom in oyster sauce, and from the char grill your choice of meat marinated with lemongrass and fresh herbs. Be sure to try their steamed jasmine rice, quite some of the best.

Bangkok does an excellent range of banquets between £15.95 - £18.95, with a minimum order of 2 covers.

The service throughout is excellent and the value for money anywhere, let alone London, is exceptional.
