Bar Gansa

2 Inverness Street, London, NW1 7JH

If you're annoyed by slow service, give Bar Gansa a wide berth, but be aware this is only due to the huge popularity of this Inverness Street tapas bar. An exhaustive examination of tapas is encouraged and, undoubtedly, the best way to do that is to share it with a group of friends. Soon plates of chicken and chorizo skewers with garlic and mayo, fried sardines with salsa picante and grilled asparagus with roasted almond flakes are finding their way to your table. Starters like hand carved Iberian smoked mountain ham and cold classic Spanish summer tomato soup are thoroughly enticing too, followed by mixed meat kebab skewers with vegetable rice, salsa vinaigrette and yoghurt mint sauce, and grilled salmon steak with braised asparagus, potatoes and a citrus orange sauce.

The drinks list at Bar Gansa is particularly satisfying with useful notes making for a better sip and slurp experience, and there are four non-vintage house champagnes, including Codorniu Reserva Raventos, an elegant table sparkler that makes for an excellent accompaniment to tapas.

REVIEWS OF Bar Gansa

Richard Lawson (21 October 2005)

We've always been so taken with the Paella Valenciana that we've never got round to ordering much tapas. It's deliciously and authentically flavoured with plenty of chicken, fish, squid, prawns, mussels, peppers etc. and beautifully presented. The sangria and wines are excellent. The changing staff have always been friendly. The restaurant has a great atmosphere though the type/volume of music in the evening is less to our taste so we now tend to make this a lunchtime excursion.
