Barluga Description

The setting is superb. Wander down the elegant curve of Newcastle's most beautiful street between the busy town and the bustling quayside and you'll discover the relaxed sophistication of Barluga. Within sight of the Theatre Royal on Grey Street, this is a place where you can indulge yourself and entertain friends at the same time. The stylish open kitchen offers a gastro pub style menu of comfort food, and an a la carte menu of delicious modern British cuisine.

Starters or light bites include citrus salmon fishcakes with red pepper aioli, oriental duck and plum salad or a homemade cheese and onion scone followed by smoked haddock hash with soft poached egg, stir fried tiger prawns with egg noodles or chilli con carne with coriander and lime rice. Seafood is an apt choice with oysters and mussels or fish which can be grilled or seared and puddings include a rich chocolate torte with crème fraiche. The drinks list is extensive featuring fine wines and numerous cocktails.

Your Reviews of Barluga

Julie (14 October 2009)

We are regulars at Barluga and highly recommend their early menu that they serve from Monday to Thursday, with two courses for £9.95, and it is always very good quality food. The wine is also very reasonable and of great quality too; a glass of Prosecco is for £4.95 and it is always fresh and never flat. The location is central and a great place to stop after a hard day’s shopping!

Annette (14 July 2008)

I was visiting my daughter in Newcastle this weekend with my sister and best friend. On Saturday she took us into the City Centre to show off the beautiful shops and architecture. We went to Barluga for lunch and were very impressed by the warm greeting and the friendly service. I had a chicken liver pâté starter and a glass of pink champagne. We felt very special sitting in the ornate and comfortable surroundings. I love Newcastle and will be back again soon.
