Base Restaurant - Baker Street Description
This second addition to the Base restaurant group is a lively bistro by day and a softly lit restaurant by night. In a bustling Baker Street setting, this charming eatery serves an unfussy mixture of Mediterranean classics to a relaxed, informal crowd of diners.
Typical dishes include saddle of lamb stuffed with wild mushrooms and crispy grilled whole sea bass with paella and fresh saffron. For vegetarians, there are grilled vegetables and goat's cheese crostini or wild mushroom risotto.
The restaurant also caters for over 120 guests during private parties and formal functions and there is live jazz on Saturday evenings.

When I first visited this busy brasserie just opposite Baker Street station, I was initially attracted by the wide choice of the menu which contained many of my favourite dishes. Since then, I have been back many times and never had a single poor meal. The value for money is incredible, as their chefs really know how to cook!
In particular the risotto (with asparagus and chives or Porcini mushrooms) is absolutely delicious. My other favourite starters include the crispy duck salad and warm goat’s cheese salad served with walnuts. Amongst the main courses, I really enjoy the lamb shank in a rosemary jus, the fillet steak with a pepper sauce, and the sea bass.
If you still have room, try the banana and chocolate crepes or the tarte tatin - they are absolutely delicious! Not surprised that they were a winner in the LBC competition to choose London best local restaurant. They have a sister restaurant in Hampstead, but I haven’t tried it yet.
