Bay Tree, The Description
The Bay Tree Restaurant, located in the centre of the village of Melbourne, has over the last twenty-one years gained a reputation for offering new world cuisine. Co-proprietors, chef Rex Howell and Vicki Talbott, have combined friendly service, a relaxing ambience and deftly prepared dishes, making it a popular venue for breakfast, romantic dinners as well as special events.
Start with natural smoked haddock folded in deliciously seasoned risotto cooked with vodka and finished with yellow wax beans and crème fraiche and Thai fish cakes with a plum and spring onion garnish. Move on to thinly sliced calf's liver presented with homemade sausages, 'fluffy' mashed potato and onion gravy, and crispy Lunesdale duckling with a Saint Clements sauce. The champagne breakfast has its steady following among regulars. The wine list complements the food well.
Your Reviews of Bay Tree, The
Wendy (17 October 2009)
Simply the best restaurant in Derbyshire if not the East Midlands. Vicky and Rex really know about great tasting food and know how to serve it in a relaxing, friendly but highly professional environment. Both were trained by food supremo Joe Waldron previously of the Bluebell Restaurant, Palm Court Restaurant and Mackworth Hotel.
Lin Reeve (9 July 2009)
We have been to the Bay Tree twice - both for 'special occasion' champagne breakfasts. The food is excellent, the waiting staff are efficient and courteous and the setting in Melbourne village is nice too. I would, however, recommend contacting the restaurant beforehand if you have any dietary problems, simply because the breakfast menu is fairly limited.
