Beetle & Wedge Boathouse, The Description

A splendid hotel alongside the river Thames, with a confident philosophy embracing an elegant dining room that has some of the best river views. A haven for romantics who, even if they are living off the food of love, have little hesitation in taking advantage of Richard Smith's inspired English cooking with the strong cross-Channel influence that has become his hallmark. The artichoke heart with wild mushrooms and Hollandaise sauce makes a fine starter and prelude to the fillet of Dover sole with fresh pasta and a delicious lobster sauce. The roasted mango with coconut ice cream and caramel sauce introduces a subtle combination of flavours to round off a meal worthy of remembrance. Equally worthy is the comprehensive and venerable wine list. A good selection of house wines weigh in at £16.50 or £3.95 a glass.

Your Reviews of Beetle & Wedge Boathouse, The

Sue Jagger (17 September 2007)

Completely disgraceful, despite a denial that there had been a change of ownership or chef since our last visit, the service was appalling and the food so bad that we were not charged for our main course. There was no longer anything remotely French about the restaurant and I would never set foot inside it again even if it was on my doorstep, which most certainly is not. A celebration day was wrecked and I am just thankful that our son turned down our suggestion to spend his twenty first there, and opted for the reliable Langans in London instead.

Robin Allison (2 March 2005)

Good food with attentive service for warm English summer evening overlooking one of the nicest stretches of the River Thames. Slightly pricey for lunch. Specials are good value. Off the beaten track but well worth the visit. Can get very busy in the evening.
