In Thailand, a Benjarong refers to a kind of painted porcelain and literally means five colours but thousands of miles away in South Country Club Drive, Mesa, it is the name of a friendly Thai restaurant that introduces customers to the delights of its Asian cuisine.

The homely interior of Benjarong is decorated with artefacts, pictures, indoor plants and simple chairs and cloth covered tables. The ingredients used to create the dishes are all fresh and this shines through as soon as you taste the food.

Start with tom yum soup, salad of pork, shrimp and egg plant called yum ma-kheua, or seasoned pork on toast. Vegetarians will delight in the deep-fried green papaya and carrot. Mains encompass phad Thai; red, yellow and green curries, and dishes created using bamboo shoot, green beans, basil, onions and scallion. Specials consist of kai yad sai or Thai omelettes, and pad ma kheud of fresh banana, all served with your choice of fish, meat, seafood or vegetables.
