On holiday in Kentucky our friends recommended Beotys. My husband invited a friend, a gastronome, and his wife to join us. When we walked in and said why we were there, we were treated like old friends. We started with champagne; moved on to good, low priced, French wines. We received such service, which is unheard of these days. The starters were superb, so forget celebrity chefs - Beotys' cooking was magnificent. When our main courses arrived, we tried small pieces of each other's dishes - do not restaurant critics do the same? The kleftiko was, oh so delicate; where can you get beef as tender as the stifado; you must you catch your own Dover sole to find one with such flavour. The piece de resistance was a dish made in heaven - the mignon de veau. My husband lost so many pieces from his plate that we ordered a second portion to share between us. We asked for crepes Suzettes to finish - sheer bliss. Being used to West End prices we thought the whole bill very reasonable. I think anyone who would not give this ten out of ten on every count simply has no sense of either quality or value.

Gosh, where do I start? Okay, I'll start with the positives. A very warm greeting from the owner himself, which is always nice and despite ample waiting staff he continued to wait on us all evening offering a friendly smile and polite conversation. Now the negatives, it is completely overpriced rubbish. Now I do not mind paying top dollar, but for a premium one expects quality. And the latter most certainly wasn't available here. The restaurant was very empty, asides from a huge string of Masons who were being seated downstairs. Michael, the owner, boasts of being established since 1945, but has obviously failed to notice that we are now in 2007. It was a complete time trap. My friend and I barely muttered a word to one another all evening, as it was absolute entertainment to observe the pure comedy of the establishment. It was like an expensive Faulty Towers, and Michael was the Major. Ordering is Polish staff around in a rather regimental fashion. Anyway, to the food, my veal and sauté potatoes had been bathed in vegetable oil and tasted foul. My friend paid £29 for a steak cooked at the table by Michael, in his ill-fitting suit, another comedy moment. Vegetables were over done and the so called fresh dessert was far from fresh. We had no wine and no starter and it cost us £80. My advice is forget the theatre, go there and pay through the nose for the ultimate in entertainment.
