Bistro at Hotel du Vin - Bristol Description

We live in a world of conversions and splendid old buildings such as the Bristol Sugar House providing the setting for restaurants such as the Hotel du Vin & Bistro. Probably the greatest strength is the fine wine list, which includes not only predictable (and some quite unpredictable) favourites but also wines from Switzerland, Canada and Greece. Great efforts have been made to successfully create the bistro atmosphere, in the courtyard particularly. Food is good and uncomplicated with an emphasis on well-selected materials; seafood dishes like sea bass with braised fennel and red wine jus, salmon fishcake with sorrel beurre blanc or crab crusted halibut with fresh tagliatelle have become a bit of a speciality. The well-praised wine list is sensibly priced, with six wines offered by the glass.

Your Reviews of Bistro at Hotel du Vin - Bristol

Mac (16 May 2008)

I took my wife to Bistro at Hotel du Vin recently as it was highly recommended. I found the surroundings very comfortable with a good ambience. Unfortunately, the lighting in the Bistro was poor - one candle on each table and dim wall lights meant I could hardly read the menu! The service was excellent and second to none. Our table was well positioned with plenty of room. Although the food was okay, I was disappointed with my rib eye steak main course - it was far too salty for my taste. The house red wine was very good value and overall the bill was not as expensive as I had anticipated. I would certainly go again.

Graham (31 July 2007)

It was a busy restaurant with lovely French influenced food. The wine was great, the room was a little tight - can't blame them for packing them in! It is one of the best places to eat in Bristol - but book early.

When one of the country's most respected and leading critics says that a restaurant in this group is 'the best Italian Restaurant outside London' it is time to take them seriously. Britain's love ...
