Bistro at Hotel du Vin - Tunbridge Wells Description
When under private ownership in the 19th century, the young Queen Victoria, who had quite a penchant for this part of the world, was known to visit. Even if she had been unamused by a return visit nowadays I wager Prince Albert's Teutonic blood would have been stirred by the wine list at the very least.
In fact the food is in full support and a memorable starter is the dreamy, creamy Cullen skink, still regarded with some suspicion south of the border, but do they know what they're missing? Chicken that tastes like the real thing could be accompanied by wild mushrooms and fondant potatoes and perhaps HM would be encouraged to smile by a vanilla-flecked pannacotta, surrounded by raspberries?
The wine list really is impressive and includes Israel and Thailand (you didn't know?). The house Merlot and Chardonnay at £11.50 reflects a restrained approach to pricing.

We booked a table for our wedding anniversary, but only to find when we arrived they had no reservation! The staff were not particularly welcoming and we were shoved on a table in the corner.
The food was ok, nothing bad to report, but as for service? What service? I have to say waiting hour between starter and main, and then 45 minutes between main and dessert, my husband and I left the Bistro feeling somewhat let down. I wouldn't recommend any of my friends to eat here, as I feel they wouldn't stay my friends!
