Bistro Hafren Description
Hafren is a teashop and evening bistro based in the market town of Llanidloes right in the heart of mid Wales. The place is known for its warm, attentive service, as well as wholesome, homemade food. Starters could include deep fried brie wedges and fresh pan-fried mushrooms. For mains, there are steaks, marinated fish and vegetarian crepes. The restaurant has a special menu on request and welcomes children both at lunch time and evenings.

A word of warning, make sure there isn't a party at the same time you want to visit. We waited twenty minutes for a drink. Both my husband and I ordered sirloin steak, which arrived on a plate with no garnish whatsoever, and was accompanied with roast potatoes, parsnips, sprouts, carrots, boiled potatoes and tinned peas. This is not what you expect to be served with steak, and was obviously what was being served to a party of twelve in another room. Not good enough I'm afraid when you pay £25 a head. When we complained to the waitress the chef-proprietor couldn't be bothered to come and see us. We will not revisit.
