Bistro on the Beach Description
As the name implies, short of setting up camp on the beach you will not eat any nearer to the sea than at the Bistro, a fact which has been totally accepted by locals and holidaymakers alike who flock in great numbers to enjoy the buzz and informality of this friendly place that offers real value for money. You choose from a fixed price or a la carte menu, sit back and let it all happen. Start with a pave of seabass, broad bean ragout and pea risotto or sautéed mixed kidneys with a port wine sauce. Main courses could include red snapper fillet with curry tempura and puy lentils or braised lamb shank with English mustard mash and rosemary jus. A blackboard array of specials is always on offer. In season go for the summer fruit pudding with clotted cream or delicious pecan treacle tart and maple syrup ice cream. House wine is £9.95, the car park is right next door, go enjoy!
Fixed Dinner
- £17.50 (2 courses) to £19.95 (3 courses)
Your Reviews of Bistro on the Beach

Superb - this is the only word we can use to describe the Bistro on the Beach at Southbourn Location 21 on Prom Tourist Boards. The food, service, location and views combine to create a quality experience that we could not find anywhere else on Bournemouth prom or town. We had breakfast in the restaurant, ice cream in the afternoon and would recommend eating there.

Do not visit this establishment whilst under the current chef's appalling cooking skills. My wife and I have eaten at this establishment on numerous occasions, a lovely setting and great, warm, friendly staff. Having been told over the phone that a new chef was in residence we had booked a table to satisfy our curiosity. We were served with wine on the sea front seats and then took our table inside as the temperature dropped. The waiting staff were attentive, friendly and made us feel extremely welcome. Following our starters I ordered a prawn pasta dish whilst my wife ordered the steak, what was served could only be described as a second rate garbage (people dining next to us also left most of theirs). The food resembled a 1980's school dinner, dry and over cooked (probably reheated) and tasteless. The local pubs serve better food and at half the price! Whilst the current so called chef is in residence we shall not be eating there again. The waiting staff were superb, it is such a shame that they have to serve second rate school dinners, do yourselves a favour and find a restaurant where you could proudly serve the dishes on offer.
