This steakhouse in Berners Street gets its name from black for well done and blue for rare. All of their meat comes from suckler herds in Yorkshire and Lancashire and is Red Tractor rated. Artwork on the walls, fresh linen napkins and a modern approach give Black and Blue a crisp contemporary feel. To start, there's tortilla chips with guacamole, crispy chicken wings, smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, char grilled king prawns and pâté of foie gras. For their steaks, Black & Blue use prime 28-day aged British Isles beef which is then char grilled and served with fries, house salad, foie gras and choice of Béarnaise sauce, herb and garlic butter or peppercorn sauce. Fish dishes include Indian Ocean yellow fin tuna steak, king prawns with garlic butter and Shetland Isles salmon steak.

Mortimers seems to have changed hands. All the old members of staff are gone but the refit seems to have at last been completed. The menu has changed and prices have gone up somewhat. The food took forever to arrive and was disappointing, huge portion of chicken on my salad but the leaves were a tad over ripe and the interesting piece of brown plastic tube in the fries was a bit of a shock. I can't see it working as a lunch venue now and judging by the number of people there today, I'm not alone.
