Black Pearl Description

Black Pearl, located in the heart of the historic old town, brings gastronomy and good times to Hastings. Known for its seafood, service and music, this restaurant and brasserie is spread over two levels with a lounge bar on the ground floor and a more formal setting above.

As they specialise in fish and seafood, you could start with a trio of oysters with a salad garnish in a lemon and vinegar dressing, and move on to grilled lemon sole with lemongrass butter or baked fillet of sea bass on crushed potatoes and spinach with dill butter.

Meat eaters and vegetarians aren't neglected either with alternatives ranging from slow-braised lamb shank in mint gravy to halloumi kebabs with Mediterranean vegetables and couscous, while desserts could feature apple meringue pie or Italian-style bread-and-butter pudding made with biscotti, espresso coffee, marsala and mascarpone.

Your Reviews of Black Pearl

Jodsy (1 March 2008)

I was thoroughly disappointed. The place looks lovely from outside but is proof that looks can be deceiving. We stopped there for lunch and were warmly greeted by the waitress and seated. The restaurant was freezing cold; we placed our orders for two burgers and waited just over an hour for our food that although edible was below average. It looked nicely dressed, but was poor in both taste and quality.

The waitress was apologetic and justified the wait with an explanation about oven temperature, but this was at lunchtime on a Saturday with several other groups of customers dining when the restaurant should really have been operating efficiently.

We would not recommend it to friends. Our advice to Black Pearl would be to keep things simple; the decor and atmosphere are great, but trying too hard to make food look nice whilst ignoring the taste and quality is not going to win any fans.
