After reading the past two reviews we were quite hesitant to visit the restaurant today, but as we regularly go there, we wanted to check it out for ourselves.There was no feeling of coldness; in fact, the main restaurant area was very warm. The place was full to what we could see, and the staff looked after our every need. The food was up to its excellent standard, piping hot and served in good time.

For the number of customers there did not seem to be many staff, I think maybe three plus the manager. When leaving I had a quick word with the young manager and he did say that he did have a slight staff shortage that day, this was due to staff having flu. All the same, they managed to keep to the pace, and do so with a happy demeanour.

The mill has recently undergone a slight facelift, gone are the tables near to the bar and instead is a warming coffee lounge, with roasting fireplace. There has been a paint-job as well; the place is a lot lighter and pleasant, a modern look but keeping the character of the old mill. Apparently they are also restoring the watermill into working order, so I can’t wait to see the results.

We had lunch at the Old Mill on 31 December. When we got there at 12.30 it was chilly in the restaurant area, so they still haven't got their lack of heating sorted. It did warm up later - maybe they need to turn the heaters on earlier.

There was tomato juice, though rather watery, and we weren't offered Worcester sauce. The waiter, when asked, said they hadn't got any, but in due course, the Manager found some.

The coffee machine was still not working, we asked for instant coffee, as it was not offered, to which the waiter said they could provide it, but he'd need notice to boil the kettle. I wonder how long it would have taken to make fresh coffee, or is it made and kept warm for hours? The food was okay and the service cheerful, but rough and ready. We shan't go again - particularly not in cold weather.
