Blue Bar Cafe Description

Blue has survived the re-entry stage and is now well established as one of the fun places to eat in Edinburgh's theatre quarter. Poised above Atrium, and another living testimony to the durability of the brasserie concept, Blue offers a value for money menu which takes no prisoners when it comes to imagination. A starter of cream of spinach soup, with nutmeg and mascarpone sets the tone and thereafter it can be anything from sandwiches through to a cornfed chicken dish with leek risotto and bacon dressing. The Malteser ice cream sets new standards of indulgence in a country that gave us the deep-fried Mars Bar. Don't expect overmuch choice on the wine list, but all save the super fussy will be catered for, starting at around £13. More to the point are 11 wines by the glass, all below £4.

Fixed Lunch

  • £9.95 (2 courses) to £13.95 (3 courses)

Fixed Dinner

Your Reviews of Blue Bar Cafe

Richard Kerley (17 November 2004)

This is a city centre bar/restaurant that really combines the two well to give a great buzz but also allows space and comfort to eat a very good [and often changing] contemporary menu.

My family and I eat there often and I have taken largish parties of important business visitors and always have been well catered for.

Service is excellent; observant but not intrusive. Wine list is good for size and reasonable.

There is also an outstanding formal restaurant [The Atrium] below which is fabulous for formal and stylish dining. I'd eat in both anytime.
