Bluebell, The Description
The Bluebell is one of those gastropubs where you could quite easily spend an evening doing nothing other than simply relaxing in their friendly and unassuming ambience that boasts of flagstone floors, timber beams and warm log fires. Of course you might well have a yearning to sip some of their vintage wines or tuck into some of their delicious food, while you're at it.
Henley's very own favourite hang out is one where you can dine in the peaceful al fresco area outside or simply curl up in one of their squashy leather sofas as you enjoy your meal. Starters such as devilled whitebait with aioli followed by main courses like free-range chicken ballotine with pancetta, sautéed spring cabbage and tarragon sauce are wildly popular. For dessert, the chef's special is a sumptuous cheesecake, and the wine list is contemporary although there are quite a few vintage bottles as well as real ales on offer.

The food and beer were great and they even had homemade lemonade for the driver. They had a good and wide choice including the fish with seasonal dishes. There was a lot of character and it was full of locals. It was the best place I’ve been to this year.

My wife and I recently called in for Sunday lunch and were pleasantly surprised by how much it had changed. The original features (flagstones, beams, open fire etc) have all been retained, and given it a very welcoming feel.
The food did not disappoint, the menu was not especially long, but there was still a nice selection of dishes and a several specials on the blackboard. I had whitebait to start and then roast lamb for main. Portions were a good size, so we shared a chocolate brownie which was heavenly.
We are looking forward to trying it again on a Thursday evening (seafood night) - I've heard people say that the fish specials are exceptional.
